Webb Yates Engineers provided the structural and civil engineering design for a new timber framed extension and refurbishment to an existing home in Hackney, London.
The slightly unusual construction of the house, which is semidetached at the street front but terraced to rear at the lower ground floor level, has resulted in irregular landing floor levels. This provided an opportunity for the design to incorporate striking wrap-around structural glazing, which bridges the gap between the landing above and the space below.
The result is a sustainable reinvention of the typical London two-storey extension.
